mythical women
This body of work is concerned with women in Greek myths retelling their stories. Greek tragedies often use female characters who can exercise a degree of independence not permitted to them outside fiction while at the same time representing conflicting views about their capacity to act as mature moral agents. What interests me is the misogyny permeating these myths, together with the emphasis on maintaining the status quo. I want to examine the extent of the myth’s resonance and to explore these mythical women (Phaedra, Pandora, Medea) as characters by making a series of positive / negative images contrasting the internal with the external view.
